Online Video Poker Real Money

Video poker is one of my favorite games. I enjoy it because it has a low house edge, it’s ‘poker,’ and I don’t have to play with other people.

You can imagine my excitement when I found out you can play video poker on the internet – for real money. I get to save money from not having to travel, which I can now funnel to more video poker hands.

And guess what? You can do it too.

This page is going to tell you more about it. Read on to learn about what video poker variations you can play, how to play on the go, and what you need to know about casino promotions.

Video Poker Variations You Can Play

One of the things I like most about playing online is all the different types of video poker games you can play.

Here is an overview of the most popular ones.

  • Bonus Poker
  • Aces and Faces
  • Bonus Deuces
  • Deuces and Joker
  • Deuces Wild
  • Double Bonus Poker
  • Double Double Bonus Poker
  • Jacks or Better
  • Joker Poker
  • Rocket Jacks
  • Triple Double Bonus Poker
  • Seven Stud Poker
  • Loose Deuces
  • Double Double Jackpot Poker

There are variations of these variations too. For example, many casinos will have options like deluxe, gold, high stakes and 2 (like a sequel). You can play them all for real money.

The biggest difference between online casinos will be what variations they offer. Most casinos I’ve reviewed have between 5-10 different games. So you might have to have accounts at 2-3 casinos to play them all.

Play Video Poker On The Go

Mobile has exploded in the last 5 years. So casinos are creating mobile apps so that you can play your favorite games on the go. No longer are you chained to your desk or laptop; you can now play while in line, in traffic or from your toilet.

One thing you’ll notice, though, is that there are still few video game mobile options. Most US casinos will not have one, except for the occasional Jacks or Better game.

Across the pond you’ll have a bigger selection. For example, at Bovada you can play 10s or Better, Jacks or Better, Joker Poker, Deuces Wild or any of these games in a 4-line variation.

Most games will be compatible with Apple or Android. You’ll either download them to your device, or play the games from your browser.

The best way to get started is to visit the casino from your mobile device. They’ll tell you how to install or play the games. From there you’ll just need to create an account and make a deposit to play for real money.

How Video Poker Promotions Work (2 Tips Below!)

The last thing I want to share is how the promotions work for video poker players. More specifically, the deposit bonuses.

The idea behind deposit bonuses is to encourage new players to join and make a deposit. For example, the casino might offer to match your deposit 150% up to $3,000. For every $1 you deposit, you’ll get $1.50 extra.

First Tip

If you have to choose between a larger match or larger bonus cap, go with the match. Your money goes further.

But these bonuses have catches. The casino will ask you to wager so many dollars before you can request a withdrawal. Withdraw too soon and you’ll lose your bonus, and any money you may have won playing with it.

Common terms might look like 20x or 40x the deposit plus bonus. If you wager $100, receive $150, for a total of $250, at 20x you’d have to wager $5,000.

But it gets worse. Since video poker and most table games have a low house edge, they’re either excluded from the offers, or have to wager more money.

Video poker players usually have to wager more money.

The casinos will ask that you wager more, like 4x the standard play through. Using my example above, you’d have to wager 80x or $20,000.

That doesn’t sound so good, huh?

Second Tip

You can ask the casino to opt you out of the deposit bonus. That way, if you win, you can actually withdraw your money.

Keep in mind that promotional terms aren’t reserved for deposit bonuses. You’ll have to complete wagering requirements for VIP offers, reload bonuses and free cash deals, too. In fact, with cash back offers you’ll have to wager 4x as much to earn the same amount you would playing slots.

Is it worth it? At most casinos it’s not. Every once in awhile you’ll find a casino that has okay terms, like 50-60x. If you plan on accepting a bonus, be sure to sign up to those casinos.
